Description
Summary:Spacious maritime territory in Indonesia needs technology to prevent disadvantageous activity such as illegal fishing, illegal refueling, oil exploiting, smuggling and so forth which draw resources of Indonesia on the other purpose of accelerating prosperity for citizens. Satellite mission on detecting illegal activity on water territorial is being designed with the capability to accept AIS signal from operating ships in Indonesian terrritory and capture it by SAR. The concept of operation is that the receiving satellite will capture while passing Indonesian region, then send it to the ground station before edging away. Thereafter, the data received is then processed in ground segment to determine suspected ships.

In this Thesis, communication and power subsystem of illegal-activity-detecting satellite was analysed. Link was derived from the satellite mission and designed with three alternatives of basic antennas and determined which link with the best performance. After the link is fixated, components of the subsystem were then determined and sized. Aferwards the power subsystem was designed which consist of solar cell area calculation as the main power generator, and battery.

The result of analysis and design in this Thesis are the selected components for both subsystems, sizing and other specifications of each components.
