In Indonesia, PT. Petro Oxo Nusantara (PON) also produces 2-ethyl-hexanol compounds through oxo reaction. One of the steps in the oxo reaction is the 2-ethyl-2-hexenal consonant hydrogenation reaction to 2-ethyl-hexanol. This reaction requires a nickel-based catalyst as the most effective step for obtaining a higher and purer 2-ethyl-hexanol recovery. In the absence of a catalyst, the hydrogenation reaction proceeds very slowly and can be accelerated by very high-temperature conditions. However, the need for hydrogenation catalyst at PT. PON is still filled with imported commodities causing dependence on foreign parties. Therefore, research on the synthesis of a 2-ethyl-2-hexenal hydrogenation catalyst to prepare itself to become an independent nation in meeting those needs. The objective of this research is to develop formula and procedure of nickel-based catalyst manufacture at Chemical Reaction Engineering Laboratory and Catalysis of Institut Teknologi Bandung and get the equation of reaction rate using nickel-based catalyst development result. In this research, the development of synthesis method and nickel catalyst activity test on various support type to get the result of conversion test and selectivity that can compete with the commercial catalyst. The catalyst is synthesized with a nickel content of 50%-b. The buffer consists of AlO(OH) (ketapal) and SiO2 (cabosil) in variations of 0%-b, 20%-b, 50%-b, 80%-b, and 100%-b of cabosil towards support. The hydrogenation reaction was carried out at the batch reactor for 10 hours at a working condition of 120°C and 30 bar. The results of this study obtained the best synthesis catalyst performance is NiO50-Cab50 with 100% 2-ethyl-2-hexenal conversion and selectivity to 2-ethyl-hexanol 98%. Meanwhile, the energy value of the activity by using NiO50-Cab 50 catalyst was obtained by reaction at a temperature variation of 110-130°C. The one-stage reaction (2-ethyl-2-hexenal hydrogenation to 2-ethyl-2-hexanal) has an Ea value of 39.88 kJ / mol and the second stage (hydrogenation 2-ethyl-2-hexanal to 2-ethyl-hexanol) has an Ea value of 89.38 kJ / mol. This shows the reaction to accelerate with increasing temperature. <p align="justify"> <br /> text
