The problem is that number of traffic accident occurred in developing countries, is still very high, especially in Indonesia. In some developed countries, efforts to minimize the number of accidents are still to be developed; one of the efforts is to conduct research in assessing relationship between crash rates and road/environment condition. In this research, the relationship between accident rates and road/environment condition is reviewed by taking Klampok - Bts. Kota Banjarnegara national road, Central Java as study case. In this case, the road/environment condition is represented by RPS (Road Protection Score) value or Star Rating that was developed by IRAP (International Road Assessment Programme). RPS value is generated based on an assessment of the road attributes which are summarized in a certain formulation. Crash rates and Star Ratings relationship is analyzed using correlation method and statistical tests to determine the strength and the significance of the relationship. The results showed that the relationship between crash rates and Star Rating is very weak. This indicates that the road/environment condition has different impact on accident risk of a road location. This research also seeks relationship between RPS of a location and hazardous locations identified by AASHTO methods, which include average crash frequency, crash rates and critical rate methods. The result shows that the most hazardous location identified in Klampok - Bts. Kota Banjarnegara is not the location with the highest RPS value. However, the more hazardous locations tend to be roads with Star Rating-1 star.<p align="justify"> text |
