Description
Summary:Technological advances and developments in the world of fashion today have

created many new trends, one of which is BioCouture. This is a trend of using

fermented yeast and bacteria which may form a cellulose structure or commonly

known as SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast) as a fashion product

material. In Indonesia, the existence of BioCouture-based fashion products is not

popular yet due to low awareness of using environmentally friendly materials as

an alternative material among textile producers and fashion designers. This

material can replace the leather because it is not fibrous, having similarity in the

texture and not harmful. This research focused on the motif and textures through

natural dyes, food dyes and Aspergillus niger.sp, where each of which produces

unique and different characters. The research used descriptive and experimental

methods. The design of fashion products will be combined between the style patch

and the motif and texture of the natural material coloring.

Properties of SCOBY having high absorption make it easy to apply the variety of

motifs and colors on the material and produce Bio-Leather products that can

penetrate the light. By providing an alternative to environmentally friendly

BioCouture-based fashion products, it is expected that such products can attract a

lot of interests from the public particularly in Indonesia and provide new insights

and understanding in the fashion world as a starting point to develop BioCouture

motifs and textures in fashion products.
