The lack of proper reference in assessing the criteria of “couture” and “haute couture” resulted in a misunderstanding for Indonesian fashion designers, thereby leading to a unilateral material loss, diminishing value of <br /> <br /> fashion couture and in turn harming the “couture designers’ reputation/credibility. As such, it is very important for “couture” designers to research and find the right criteria formula. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The research is based on library data and direct survey at the Mel Ahyar workshop and Harry Darsono museum, including an interview with the fashion experts. The research aims at assessing the feasibility to enable “couture” designers avail of the criteria to become “couture” designers in Indonesia. The research used qualitative methods, and descriptive analysis with an ethnography approach. <br /> <br /> Haute couture and couture in Indonesia are generally custom made, hand made and decorative. Haute couture and couture designers in Indonesia should have knowledge of silhouettes, an understanding of texture and details, color sense, and should have the capability to draft patterns. Further research is required to clarify the criteria of haute couture and couture designers in Indonesia. text |
