Summary: | Cucumber is a fruit-bearing plant which could produce cucurbitacin and lignan,

the potential raw material for cancer treatment. However, the annual production

of cucumber is relatively low at 477,976 tons per year. One of the reasons for the

low productivity is the low absorption of organic nitrogen and the inefficiency of

nitrogen usage for plant growth. Therefore, the aim of this study is to increase the

productivity of cucumber with the application of silica-containing fertilizer onto

the soil. The concentration of the fertilizer is 100, 150, 200, and 250 ppm.

Parameters measured to determine the effect of the fertilizer are plant height and

weight growth rate, Chlorophyll a content, fruit yield, fruit quality, and Vitamin C

content of the fruit. The result of this study concludes that fertilizer application at

200 ppm gives the best biomass growth rate, chlorophyll content, fruit yield, and

vitamin c content. Furthermore, the application of the fertilizer has no significant

effect to fruit size. In conclusion, the cultivation of cucumber with liquid silica

fertilizer with the concentration of 200 ppm could increase the growth, yield, and

vitamin c content of the cucumber fruit |
