Summary: |
Research area is located in Rantau Pandan and surrounding areas, Bungo Regency, Jambi within the latitude of 01o25'-01o40' S and the longitude of 101o45'-101o58' E. Geologically, research area consists of Palepat Formation, Sinamar Formation, Rantaukil Formation, Kasai Formation, alluvium, and intrusive igneous rocks such as granite and diorite. Sinamar Formation which is the main focus on this research was deposited in intraarc

basin that located in the north-west of South Sumatra Basin. Based on previous research, Sinamar Formation is known to contain fine sedimentary rocks that potentially

have oil shale deposits.

Organic geochemical and organic petrographic analyzes are carried out on samples of Sinamar Formation shale to determine the characteristics of organic matter quantity,

quality, and maturity. Organic geochemical and organic petrograhic analyzes were conducted on Rock-Eval pyrolysis, vitrinite reflectance analysis, and organic matter composition analysis. Based on the data, Sinamar Formation oil shales are known to have quantity in poor to excellent category, quality as a mixture of Type I and Type III kerogen, and maturity in immature to early mature stage. Obtained data were then compared with retort data of Sinamar Formation shale. Result of these comparisons shows that the amount of oil content has positive linear relationship with the value of S2, HI, and percentage of

alginite maceral, and has negative linear relationship with the percentage of vitrinite maceral and mineral contents. Abundance of alginite and vitrinite macerals that are present in Sinamar Formation oil shales interpret lacustrine depositional environment with overfilled lake basin type. Based on data analysis and calculation of operational cost, it is concluded that shale oil of Sinamar Formation can be produced economically when the

world oil price reaches US$ 97.32/barrel.
|
