Description
Summary:
Elderly people generally experience a decrease in physical function which causes them to have a higher risk of experiencing health problems. 43% of elderly death cases are caused by blood circulation disorders. In addition, the results of a survey of five Asian countries showed high cases of elderly people falling. However, the elderly are often left alone at home without the supervision of others. The late medical treatment given to the elderly when experiencing physical disruption can result to death. Therefore, we need an elderly health condition monitoring system that can serve as a means to provide information to families regarding the condition of the elderly quickly.

This system is based on the principle of the Internet of Things development. In general, the system consists of three parts, namely: wearable devices, servers and databases, and mobile applications. The integration of the three subsystems is able to monitor the elderly heart rate and detect the falling conditions. Abnormal health conditions will trigger the system to automatically send notifications through applications to elderly families. Thus, the family can immediately call the elderly and provide help as quick as possible.

This elderly monitoring system can be used on the elderly wrist and has 90% accuracy in detecting hazard conditions. The system does not trigger any false alarm when used during normal activities. The system successfully displays information clearly through an Android-based application and is able to send notifications with a delay of under two seconds. This device with dimensions of 35 mm x 50 mm x 70 mm is also able to survive on and be used for 6.5 hours.
