Description
Summary:
The research was conducted in Sano Nggoang District, Manggarai Barat Regency, Flores, Nusa Tenggara Timur on 8° 38' 46,0218'' - 8° 43' 37,0232'' South Latitude and 119° 58' 0,3023'' - 120° 01' 33,7936'' East Longitude around 58,5 km2 (6,5 x 9 km2). Geological mapping with in the scale of 1:25.000 and geochemistry analysis of geothermal water were done to understand the geological setting and the characteristic of geothermal system in the research area.

The area which is associated with the volcanic setting is located on the north side of G. Tantong Tua and Beliling Tua, on the west side of G. Pinggang Tua, and on the south side of G. Pocodedeng. Volcano stratigraphy of the research area consists of three khuluk, four gumuk and eleven volcanic rock unit that consists of Kuarter pyroclastic rock and igneous rock. Geological structure found in this area consists of Beliling Dextral Fault, three caldera such as Golo Ndaring Normal Fault, Pinggang Tua Normal Fault, Sano Nggoang Normal Fault, and primary structure such as planar joint, autobrecciation, and bedding.

Surface manifestations are hot and warm springs have temperature 360-810C, fumarole, silica sinter, carbonate sinter, and alteration. Based on the analysis, it was found that the research area has two reservoir, they are Wae Sano Reservoir which has chloride and sulphate-chloride water, temperature 2300-2400C, depth 1500 m; and Namparmacing Reservoir which has bicarbonate-chloride water, temperature 1500-1600C, depth 1000 m. Speculative resources calculated based on natural heat loss show that Wae Sano Reservoir has 1.3 MW and Namparmacing Reservoir has 0.08 MW, based on power density has 82.5 MWe and 50 MWe, meanwhile hypothetical resources based on volumetric methods has 65 MWe and 40 MWe respectively.
