Summary: | Technological developments in the automotive sector encourage world iron ore

consumption which also encourage iron ore exploration activities in Indonesia. One of

the ore deposits in Indonesia is Fe Skarn deposits at Simpang Dua, Tapaktuan Aceh

Selatan. For easier exploration activities in the area, it will be done research on

mineralogical characteristics, mineral texture, genesis and paragenesis studies.

Iron ore samples were taken by channel sampling method at CS1 and CS2 locations in

Simpang Dua, Tapaktuan, Aceh Selatan. Rock samples were analyzed by megaskopis

observation method, mineragraphy analysis and petrographic analysis.

Based on the result of the research, iron ore samples at CS1 and CS2 sampling channel

location, Simpang Dua, Tapaktuan, Aceh Selatan are massive iron ores dominated by

iron ore oxide / hydroxide minerals such as magnetite, hematite, maghemit and goethtite,

sulphides such as pyrite, chalcopyrite and covellite, while the rock-forming mineral

observed only quartz minerals. Based on literature study, mineralogical analysis, and

texture analysis, the sequence of mineral formation in iron ore samples at the research

site is the isochemical stage as evidenced by the presence of quartzite in the sample, the

prograde stage of metasomatic alteration is evidenced by the presence of magnetite

massive, quartz, and sulphide minerals. The retrograde alteration stage is evidenced by

the magnetite and hematie specularite. But, there is no alteration minerals of wallrocks

such as: epidote, actinolite and chlorite, because the samples researched is only iron ore.

The sample has undergone weathering which is characterized by the presence of goethite

minerals and some cavities in the samples. |
