The active component of

UV filter will change the way the skin reacts with UV radiation. Due to security issues and consumer

acceptance in the use of synthetic UV filters, studies and research on natural UV filters continue to

be developed. Natural UV filters such as polyphenol compounds, flavonoids, tannins, lycopene, and

essential oils. Flavonoid compounds are widely found in leaves such as rutin as the main compound

in cassava leaves (Manihot esculenta Crantz.) and quercetin in banaba leaves (Lagerstroemia

speciosa L Pers.). Cassava and banaba leaves were extracted with reflux method using 96% ethanol

and fractionated with liquid-liquid extraction method using n-hexane and ethyl acetate. The

effectiveness of the UV filter agent was stated in the value of the sun protection factor (SPF). Based

on the results of the SPF in vitro test using the Mansur method, the SPF value of the ethyl acetate

fraction of cassava leaves and banaba leaves at concentration 200 ppm gave the highest values of

10,62 ± 0,03 and 19,70 ± 0,02, respectively. The ethyl acetate fraction was added to the cream

oil/water base which was optimized using 10% emulgator of cetomacrogol 1000-cetostearyl alcohol

(1 : 4). FPS value obtained cream mixture combination 4,6% ethyl acetate fraction of cassava leaves

and banaba leaves was 8,66 ± 0,04 which was higher than the SPF value of cream preparations 3%

single fraction of ethyl acetate cassava leaves and banaba leaves of 2,73 ± 0,00 and 6,93 ± 0,03

respectively.
text
