Description
Summary:
There are various methods to join two separated part, one of which is Welding. Welding itself contains different types with different performances. In order to figure out the strength of a welded part, then a stress analysis should be conducted. Stress analysis could be done in different methods. Instead of field testing which is expensive and difficult, laboratory test is prefered. Laboratory test could be done by manual calculation, numerical analysis, and using the testing machines. Those three methods support each other. There are three loading condition, in which two of them are not qualified for AWS D1.1-2015 standard. By manual calculation, critical load which causes the Double VGroove Welded-Butt Joint to break, could be found. The design will have unequal base metal thickness. Then, the load will be inputed to ANSYS Workbench Software for numerical analysis. Generally, ANSYS will produce much higher safety factor than that of manual calculation. Manual calculation which is regarded as the primary standard, will be validated using tensile strength test to figure out the strength of the welded structure based on AWS D1.1-2015 standard. From previous tests, there are some improvements in this thesis.
