Description
Summary:
The Belawan Watershed in Medan, North Sumatra is one that experiences degradation of land quality. The high level of erosion occurring in the upper watershed makes the level of sediment particles in the water flow to be high. The utilization of raw water from surface runoff in Belawan Watershed is vital for its irrigation needs. Especially for the irrigation network of Belawan Dam with an area of 10.000 ha. Therefore it is necessary to build a sediment trap to control the level of sedimentation that goes into the irrigation canal to prevent siltation. The sludge pouch building is designed with a planned 600 ppm sedimentary fraction with normal discharge of 12 m3/s. The design of building length 280 m, width 15.8 m and depth of 1.3 m. The sediment trap at Belawan Weir has a settling efficiency of 0.81 and has qualified to be able to flush in 20% flood discharge of 5 year return period. The budget plan required to built the construction of the sediment trap is Rp.9,993,000,000.00
