Description
Summary:Energy requirements have recently increased. However, the rate of increase in electrification ratio in Indonesia tends to decrease. This is because of some provinces (sp Papua) with low electrification ratios have difficult landscapes to be accessed by access electrical transmission. One of alternative solutions to solve the

problem is by utilize the potential energy from water that has a low head (<2 m) and low debit. The utilization is by using Archimedes thread turbine.

The energy is converted into electrical energy form. In order to use it optimally, then it must has characteristics rms voltage of 220V (error <5%) and

frequency of 50 Hz. To achieve those characteristics, we need a frequency converter. Frequency converter consists of permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG), 6-pulse rectifier, boost converter, and inverter. The PMSG is

driven by an archimedes thread turbine and then connected in series.

In this final project, writer has done modeling and simulation of frequency converter design. Modeling and simulation is done by using MATLAB software. The simulation results are from numerical approach of circuit model. The output voltage and current of the rectifier are effected by capasitor in there. The output voltage and current determine the specifications of the switching component on the boost converter. Therefore the switching component that be used can be a MOSFET. The output results from frequency converter voltage value is RMS 224.8 V (error 2.18%) and frequency value is 50 Hz. The THD value for the voltage and current are 0.61%.
