Increasing supply from both new and existing fields are essential to satisfy the demand. This paper considers the situation where broadly sands or carbonates interbedded with thin shales are the existing dominant lithology in majority of oil and gas fields. Most of these reservoirs, however, are facing rapid decline in production due to the producing time of the formation. It is attractive to revive old wells to increase the production of declining fields. One of the opportunity is to optimize well output by introducing re-entry systems in vertical wells through coiled tubing drilling. This study would like to investigate the usage of undulating coiled tubing horizontal well compared to conventional horizontal well. <br /> <br /> Conventional horizontal well provides better productivity than vertical well. In the case of coil tubing, however, the productivity is comparatively smaller than conventional horizontal well due to higher frictional pressure loss inside the wellbore. It also suffers from reservoir low influx to the wellbore that is contributed by smaller well diameter. In this study, the impact of undulating well to the overall productivity is investigated. The well-known analytical horizontal well in flow performance is coupled with the pressure loss solution inside the wellbore by implementing well segmentation technique. This study considers the influence of various parameters including permeability anisotropy, formation thickness, and well spacing in comparing the productivity of conventional horizontal well to the undulating coiled tubing horizontal well. <br /> <br /> The study shows that undulated coiled tubing horizontal well have better economic value than conventional horizontal well. Implementation of the solution presented in this paper could become a consideration to perform further optimization in field developments. text
