MOPAH AIRPORT INTERNATIONAL PASSENGER TERMINAL AT MERAUKE

The passenger terminal of Mopah International Airport is located in Merauke City of Merauke Regency, Papua Province. The airport will be developed from domestic class into International to meet the growing number of passengers which has exceeded the capacity of the existing airport and will serve as the gateway of Eastern Indonesia. At the ultimate stage, this terminal will be able to accommodate 4,516,100 passengers per year. The terminal will also have an area of 40,800 m2 consist of 2 floors to serve public functions, departures, arrivals, and operations. The first floor is the arrival, operational and utility area and the second floor is for departure and operational area The design themes of this passenger terminal are “Discover Indonesia's Most Eastern Provinces” and “Stunning Edge Indonesia”. Both of these themes give birth to 1 meaning that is novelty. The novelty lies in the easternmost province of Indonesia. This theme is applied to interior and exterior elements, building mass, space program and building structure. The issue of locality becomes a very important issue besides the main issue of other passenger terminals. This issue is a reflection of the Indonesian country which has a strong culture. In addition “Stunning edge” brings the theme that Indonesia is a developed country and this terminal will give the impression of modern and can compete in the international arena. This themes will give the impression of the prospect in this terminal that Indonesia is a rich country and has its own grandeur.
