Summary:<p align="justify">Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) is a metalloenzyme which the active site contains a first transition metal ions (Cu2+, Zn2+, Mn2+, dan Fe2+). SOD is an enzyme that catalyzes the degradation reaction of superoxide anion (O2.-) to become hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and oxygen (O2). The Schiff base metal complexes have been developed in order to achive a potential SOD mimetic enzyme. In this research, the Cu(II) complex with a mixed ligand of diethylenetriamine (dien) and 2,6-dipicolinic acid (DPA) has been synthesized. The mixed ligand of dien and DPA, was expected to form a hexadentate ligand which contains two O donor atoms and four N donor atoms. The UV-vis spectrum of Cu(II) complex showed that it has a single maximum absorbance at 764 nm, it assigned as a spin allowed d-d' transition. Based on the infrared spectrum, the binding of Cu(II) ion to those ligands was determined from the shifting of the wavenumbers at the carboxylate, C=N aromatics of pyridine ring, and amines functional groups. Based on the characterization by mass spectroscopy, it showed that the synthesized complex compound was a mixture of two compounds, with molecular mass of 322 gram/mol corresponded to [Cu(DPA)(H2O)Cl2], and compound with molecular mass 386.17 gram/mol corresponded to a cationic complex of [Cu(DPA)(dien)(H2O)Cl]+. The complexes were paramagnetic compounds. The SOD activity was determined by non-enzyme assay (non-direct method) using the NBT/riboflavin reagent. This assay determined that the IC50 value of the Cu(II) complexes mixtures were found to be 3.44 &#956;&#924;. The cyclic voltammetry determination of complexes compound was perfomed in water as solvent of the analyte in the presence of KNO3 as the supporting electrolyte. Three electrodes used in this experiment were Au as working electrode, Pt as auxiliary electrode, and Ag/AgCl as reference electrode. The result showed that the E1/2 value of the Cu(II) complexes mixtures was 0.36 V, which is similiar to the E1/2 value of SOD in human body.<p align="justify">
