Gatot Bintoro
NIM : 23402039
A warranty is a contractual agreement between a manufacturer and the consumer, which requires the manufacturer to rectify all item failures that occur within the warranty period. Warranty can be extended by the consumer with a new contractual agreement. An extended warranty can be viewed as an alternative of after sales services that plays an important role in product sales. To obtain an extended warranty, the consumer must pay an additional cost.

This thesis studies the extended warranty policy for a motorcycle sold with two-dimensional warranty. We propose and study two types of extended warranty policies namely Policy I and Policy II. In Policy I, the consumer extends the warranty at the time they bought the motorcycle. In Policy II, the consumer extends the warranty at the end of the original warranty. In each Policy (Policy I and Policy II), we can define 3 different alternatives policies based on the coverage region of the extended warranty.

System failures is modelled using the one-dimensional point process formulation where the usage is modelled as a function of time. Parameter estimation for the failure model was done using claim and follow-up data and this results in a more representative reliability model compared. The policies proposed and the corresponding cost models of extended warranty are applied for sub assembly frame of motorcycle type A 125 produced by PT A. We used claim and follow-up data for motorcycles sold in Yogyakarta region from 2003 to 2004. The results of the extended warranty cost estimation for each policies are given in this thesis. text
