Description
Summary:
The study area is located in Jakarta Bay which is administratively located in Java Sea, in the northern province of DKI Jakarta. This area is part of a sea reclamation plan that will be used for residential dwelling, office buildings, factories of heavy industry, giant sea wall, and so on. Therefore. this condition is

suitable as the very important basis to implement bearing capacity study of the marine sediment in this area. Analysis methods were based on the laboratory and SPT data for the surface as well as the subsurface of marine sediments.

Bathymetry of the Jakarta Bay is belongs to gentle slope class. The analysis indicates that three boreholes show the stratigraphic of the research area, which consists of beaches sand facies to offshore clays facies and generally displays transgression phase. Based on results of bearing capacity analysis for shallow foundation and marine sediments, this area can be divided into four units: (a) Silt Unit has allowable bearing capacity value (qall) of 3 – 16 kN/m2, (b) Clayey Silt Unit has qall of 6,5 – 33 kN/m2, (c) Sandy Silt Unit has qall of 65 – 228 kN/m2, and

(d) Sand Unit has qall of 490 – 653 kN/m2. Allowable bearing capacity for deep foundations from 5 – 150 m depth is ranging from 0 to 10921 kN in BH-1, 0 to 11499 kN in BH-2 and 0 to 9263 kN in BH-3. The amount of settlement that caused by additional dead load is varying. The settlement is ranging from 0,96 to 2,21 m in 0 – 2 m depth from the sea surface sediments and from 0,96 to 0,19 m

in 2 – 10 m depth, which considered as unallowable settlement. This great settlement is possibly caused by two things, which are the uncompacted well marine sediments and the existence of clay minerals smectite in those sediments.
