Summary: | Fracture orientation in horizontal well, generally, can be divided into two, which are longitudinal and tranversal fractures. Those fractures are present since during the fracturing conducted, so occurred plane will perpendicular to smallest shear strength. At the point well is drilled perpendicular to minimum shear strength, in turn, the fracture will be longitudinal to the well, meanwhile well is drilled in line with minimum shear strength so the fracture will be transversal to the well. In this thesis, the author discuss about the most economic methodology for fracturing by comparing net present value for each fracture half length.

At the transversal fracture in horizontal well, occurred change in flow pattern, from linear into converging radial. Outside the fracture, the fluid flows in linear, while in the fracture, converging radial. The combination these two patterns produces additional pressure lost which calculated as skin effect denoted as 𝑠𝑐 (choke skin). The additional pressure lost will be accounted in this thesis.

Beside that, in gas reservoir, the additional pressure lost occured due to gas flows in turbulence, the effect which we ignore in oil reservoir. This effect known as Darcy effect. The estimation of this effect will be accounted by modifying the steps which was proposed by Economides, et al.

The most challenging part in this research is how to apprehend the parameters such as reservoir thickness, fluid density, influence of cost to net present value. In line with that, the author also develop a software to comprehend the characteristic of each parameter. The software is developed by using C# language. Hopefully, the user can easily determine the most economic fracture methodology with every real condition. |
