Comparison of Growth and Biomass Production of INPARI 30 Ciherang Sub 1 Variety Paddy Plants (Oryza sativa L.) by Using Intermittent Irrigation and Flooding Irrigation in Planting Media Variations Consisting of Soil and Biochar

Paddy (Oryza sativa) plant is the main staple plant for 90% Indonesian population. There is an increasing needs of paddy plants each year, but by land degradation, so it is necessary for alternative ways to meet market demands. This research aims to compare the use of two types of land media namely...

There is an increasing needs of paddy plants each year, but by land degradation, so it is necessary for alternative ways to meet market demands. This research aims to compare the use of two types of land media namely biochar and soil, as well as only soil and also two watering methods, namely flooded and intermittent. This research was conducted by experimental with two treatments which each treatment consists of 40 plant pots. The first treatment namely P1 is the treatment with soil planting media by 100%, P2 is the treatment with biochar planting media with comparison of 50% : 50% (2 : 2). All of the treatments are watered with water by each field capacity as well as there was fertilizing at the ager of 14, 35, and 50 HST. The first treatment was watered each day so that it could be flooding, then the second treatment was watered each week. The observed variables in this research are temperature, humidity, wind speed, sunlight intensity, temperature of planting media, plant age, plant height, numbers of leaves, number of buds, number of tassels, paddy plants with biochar + soil treatment of forage biomass, roots and grain, productivity and content of nitrogen, phosphor, and potassium in planting media, as well as C/N ratio in the planting media. Based on the plant growth parameters such as plant height, number of numbers of leaves, number of buds, number of tassels of paddy plants with planting media treatment using biochar and soil by 2:2 has higher height than other treatment. Then, the productivity parameter also shows that P2 has higher results by 5,1 ton / ha, meanwhile, the P1 has only 3, 2 ton / ha. text
