For mine mouth coal fired steam power plants that use low rank coal have low fuel calories, sulfur content and high water content if used as fuel will waste a lot of energy to evaporate water, while low calorie value and high sulfur content will become pollutant gas. Therefore, additional costs are needed to reduce the emissions of gas arising from the use of = coal, considering Indonesia as one of the countries that ratified the Kyoto Protocol must participate in climate change mitigation. The utilization of coal with mine mouth coal fired steam power plant requires investment of US $ 45,499,000 and operational cost of US $ 14,064,812 / year, and yields IRR of 16.30% and NPV of US $ 65,020,835. For the output of its utilization as an energy source has a value of US $ 0.0164 / kWh and produce emissions of 549.252.000 kg / year. <br /> <br /> <br /> Underground coal gasification technology is one of the alternative solutions of low rank coal utilization to solve the ploblem where mentioned above. Underground coal gasification converts in situ coal into gas products commonly known as CO and H2 synthesis gas. Gasification converts hydrocarbons into syngas at high temperatures and pressures which can be used as fuel for power generation and provides many opportunities for pollution control. Utilization of underground coal gasification requires investment of US $ 47,390,000 and operational cost of US $ 7,233,083/year, and yields IRR of 15.03% and NPV of US $ 60,717,419. For the output of its utilization as an energy source has a value of US $ 0.0179/kWh and can reduce emissions by 23,339,543 kg / year. <br /> text
