Description
Summary:VMC 500 is a vertical CNC milling machine produced in Indonesia which consists of large components such as column, saddle, and table. The majority of column production is difficult to do in Indonesia because of the limitations of casting facilities so that the column is cut into two parts. VMC 500 column pieces are joined with various types of joints using bolts. With the bolt joint, the dynamic characteristics of the VMC 500 will change.

One of the dynamic loads on the VMC 500 is generated by the machining process. The machining force that works is a sinusoidal force with a frequency value corresponding to the spindle rotational speed. The machining frequency which equal to the frequency of the VMC 500 system will cause resonance. The resonance occuring in the machining process will result in additional vibration and deformation so it must be avoided. To get the column joint with the best dynamic characteristics, dynamic simulation is done with the help of ANSYS software. The dynamic simulation results are in the form of FRF compliance graphs and modes shape that show the tendency of machine deformation. From each type of column joints variation checked, the type F joint is the most optimal connection.
