Description
Summary:PDAM Tirta Raharja is a company that has the main duty and function of providing clean water service for 3 regions of Bandung Regency, Cimahi City and West Bandung Regency. Sukamaju Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is one of the WTP located in PDAM Tirta Raharja service area which has a production capacity of 200 L/s to serve 2 service areas of Banjaran and Soreang subdistricts. The water

needs in Banjaran and Soreang continue to increase so that the clean water service must also be improved to meet the needs of the community. The objective of this

final project is to evaluate and redesign the coagulation, flocculation, and sedimentation units to increase the water treatment capacity of the Sukamaju WTP. Treatment process in Sukamaju WTP uses the process of coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection. The raw water is taken from Cikalong

hydropower plant. Then the raw water flows into the first unit which is coagulation to add aluminium sulfate. Furthermore, raw water flows into the flocculation unit with slow mixing process. Then the particles in the water will be settled in the sedimentation unit and then the water is filtered on the filtration unit. Chlorine gas is then added to remove microorganisms in water in the reservoir unit. The clean

water to be produced by Sukamaju WTP to meet service target in 2027 is 400 L/s. To meet this target, Sukamaju WTP has to be redesigned by also considering compliance with the design criteria of SNI 6774: 2008 and Kawamura (1991). The existing coagulation unit and the existing sedimentation of the Sukamaju IPA can still meet the design criteria to process the targeted rate, but the existing flocculation unit is unable to process the targeted rate. The suggested redesign is the addition of 2 compartments in each flocculation unit in order to meet the targeted rate, which is 400 L/s.
