| Summary: | Performing arts are generally liked by most of people in Indonesia, but sometimes the performances’ quality are poor. One of the arts center in Indonesia that has a vision in performing arts education is Komunitas Salihara that actualized by a college building design of contemporary arts that produces expert art graduates. The values that carried in this school design are diversity, freedom to express, and novelty. Diversity is expressed through various programs, freedom to express is contained by flexible spaces that can be used everytime they were needed, and novelty is also expressed through building’s program and image. This building facility is designed in Pasar Minggu, Jakarta with high density and poor street infrastructure as the main issues that approached with design’s issue solutions in functional and image aspect. The general concept of this college design is ‘circulation as space’ which means that circulation in the building is not only serves walking activities, but it also acts as a place to express and appreciate surrounding activities. ‘Circulation as space’ supports the process of observation, interaction, and inspiration for students in creating art works. Besides that, this concept also acts as a solution of limited area and limited ground floor area on the site. |
