Description
Summary:For years, provision of subsidized vertical housing has been government’s most-relied upon option to relieve housing back-log for the low-income segment of the population. However, these vertical housings often miss the mark, bringing about problems such as discomfort, a rather individualist atmosphere among tenants and in the long term, diminishing local culture. Tangerang city’s government are facing such issues regarding their plans to redevelop Kampung Neglasari, where Cina (Chinese) Benteng descendants now reside. Cina Benteng people have lived for generations along Cisadane river bank, co-existing with the locals. As time goes, they became an indispensible part of Tangerang’s history with their unique blend of Chinese and Betawi traditions. This project focuses on creating a vertical kampong (village) with concepts derived from Cina Benteng’s settlements with community development approach. Vertical kampong is a form of transition between landed residence and high-rise residence. The devised vertical kampong consist of 3 storey housings with 8 residential units each, incorporating Rumah Kebaya, Cina Benteng’s traditional form of housing in its’ design. Not only giving architectural solutions for the demand of proper and affordable housing, this vertical kampong will provide its’ residents the ability to adapt to the vertical housing typology, allowing Cina Benteng heritage to evolve with better living standards.
