Historical Museum of North Sumatra is a project with a typology of public buildings to serve the the public about the history of North Sumatra. Th final project located at Jalan H. M Joni 51, Kelurahan Teladan Barat, District of Medan City with an area of 10 468 m2. The design approach implemented by conducting site surveys and local regulations that can support data - the data on the location of the design. Furthermore, the study process is carried out in the form of literature studies, as well as the precedent related to the museum building typologies. The process of precedent studies conducted through literature searches on specific sources, and also by direct visits to buildings with similar typology. The concept of the overall design of the Museum of North Sumatra is unity in diversity, which is the building as a reflection of the diversity of cultural unity of North Sumatra. The main building access is directly from the street H. M Joni with shared access for pedestrians and vehicles. Zoning of the building is done by distinguishing between the ground floor to the next floor, with the laying of the more public functions placed on the ground floor. The concept of circulation collection by using the storyline that began with the introduction of the geographical North Sumatra to the modern stage of North Sumatra. The concept of building façade unites cultural motives North Sumatra that will be used as ornaments on the building envelope.
