Summary: | Batik is a world cultural heritage that has been established by UNESCO. Following
the establishment, the demand for batik production is increasing. In this research,
batik's wastewater will be processed using a physical-chemical method. The
electrolysis process will break down the wastewater molecules by means of electrical
direct current and with the help of electrolyte compound such as NaCl so that a redox
reaction is achieved. Wastewater originates from the batik home industry within the
area of Lembang. The waste is processed using two types of electrolysis variations,
namely voltage and type of electrode. In the first variation, graphite electrodes are
used on both anode and cathode sides with voltage supply ranging from 5 Volts, 15
Volts to 48 Volts. The second variation includes the use of graphite on the anode and
copper on the cathode with voltage supply of 5 Volts, 15 Volts and 48 Volts. In the
initial characteristic test, Zn of 340.76 mg/l is found. The first variation of
electrolysis process using graphite-graphite electrodes results in an optimum Zn
isolation of 89.74% at the voltage of 48 Volts during 8 hours and the variation using
graphite-copper electrodes generates an optimum of 98.26% at the voltage of 48
Volts during 48 hours. The variation using pH and NaCl on graphite-graphite
electrodes generates 92.73% isolation for pH of 10 and NaCl of 0 gr/l; while on
graphite-copper electrodes, the isolation is 94.7% for pH of 10 and NaCl of 5 gr/l. |
