Summary: | The final project of Museum and Gallery of Indonesian Literature is an initiative to provide
literary educational facility that aims to increase the public interest toward literature. Museum
typology is chosen as a preservation and documentation sanctuary of Indonesian literature. Gallery
typology is selected to accommodate the need of a flexible space for temporary exhibition and
meetings. This project is assumed to be owned by the government of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta,
which associates with Ministry of Education and Culture and also Ministry of Tourism and Creative
Economy. Museum and Gallery of Indonesian Literature will be planned to build in Yogyakarta as a
city that is acknowledged for the productivity of artists’ activities and a place where the literature in
Indonesia flourishes. The project is built in a site of ±27800m2 area, which is situated in North Ring
Road Street, the district of Mlati, Sleman Regency.
The design concept emphaizes on the exploration of the space experience quality, which is
principally achieved by translating the literature (two-dimensional world) into architecture (threedimensional
world) to potrait a situation that occurred in each period within the time of literature
development in Indonesia. Subsequently, the building mass presented could reflect the broad line of
Indonesian literature development. With this concept, it is expected that the building could be the
manifestation and representation of Indonesian literature development. |
