Description
Summary:This concert hall project is the Jakarta's government's joint effort with PT Pulomas Jaya and is a part of the masterplan for Waduk Ria Rio's development. The development strategy is to create a purpose for Waduk Ria Rio that can be its new visage and boost its popularity. According to studies and analyses for land purpose, intensity, accessibility, environment, area, shape, competition, and vision, building a concert hall is deemed the most fitting and profitable solution. Acoustics and circulation is the main criteria in designing the concert hall. Some other design criterias are also considered, such as: the building must still be used for other activities when there is no concert going on, must be able to cater to many kinds of music, accessible to handicapped people, can maximize the potential of the dam area and the parks around it, and can adapt to the tropical climate. The concept for the concert hall is initiated from the grouping of music according to their character, like contemporary music (pop, rock, and jazz) and classical music (traditional music and orchestra). Both groups have different auditorium requirements for optimal acoustics quality so that the concert hall built will have two audioriums with two building masses with different characters. The union of the two is done harmonically, so that the buildings have the image of one, even though they are different. "Harmony of Two Characters" is a fitting description for the main concept of this concert hall. Building A has a fan-shaped auditorium for contemporary music shows like pop, rock, and jazz; where they need an audio system for concerts. Meanwhile, building B uses an arena auditorium (vineyard) for classical music concerts that don;t need an audio system. With this concept, the design can fulfill the acoustic quality requirements as needed by each musical category. The siteplan responds to the masterplan and existing environment. All the areas within the dam is connected by the bridge that connects the southern and northern areas. Between the concert hall and hotel, will be made a plaza for public activities and there is also an area for hawkers to sell near the exit. The connecting path's design for linking one area to another is made attractive with a shapes that curve and flow to give a fluid feel.
