Description
Summary:Science is a mandatory subject in every level of education in Indonesia. Unfortunately, there are no science museum in Indonesia that is substantially comprehensive, thus its presence is a need, especially in Jakarta, the capital city. Science museum is a museum that exhibits scientific achievements and science history. This project is located inside the recreational complex of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, East Jakarta. The site has total area of 35.376 m2 with building coverage area of 10.612 m2. The site is strategically located adjacent to a lake, toll road, and Keong Mas Theatre. Total area of the building is 18.436 m2. There are five permanent exhibition gallery, which are Life Science Gallery, Earth Science Gallery, Space Science Gallery, Physical Science Gallery, Science Technology Gallery, and one temporary exhibition gallery and a planetarium. The issues of this project are circulation, zoning, accessibility, and shape design approach. The big concept is ‘open’ and ‘informal’ museum, so the design aims to integrate indoor and outdoor space eloquently. Design approach used in this project are metaphorical shape, linear circulation, and zoning by functions.
