<b>ABSTRACT:</b><br> <br /> A STUDY OF CROPPING PATTERN <br /> IN THE IRRIGATION AREA OF BATANG ANAL <br /> WEST SUMATERA <br /> <br /> By <br /> Refdizal <br /> MM : 95003215 <br /> The cropping pattern is a copping pattern on a farming area in a year, including the period of the land cultivation. The implementation of the cropping pattern of a technical irrigation area in a year is usually performed based on Decree of local Regional Head. In addition to the consideration to support the national food policy, the determination of the cropping pattern is also made based on the water availability factor and farmer's aspiration. <br /> <br /> The irrigation area of Batang Anai, which has a functional area by 4,874 Ha, has adequate water potency and majority farmers possessing a character og performing the paddy-paddy cropping patern, so that the agricultural productivity in the irrigation area of Batang Anai is perceived to be decreased. From such farmer's aspiration. Hence, it is necessarily conducted a study of cropping patern in order that it can be made as a recommendation for the cultivation of Batang Anai irrigation area. <br /> <br /> This study is dealing with the identification of available copping patern and water need, the analyzing of reliable discharge, the analyzing of the available water need, the analyzing of the manpower, agricultural equipment and unhulled paddy price, as well as farmer's social condition in the irrigation area of Batang Anai. From the analyzing of the analyzing of the available cropping pattern, it indicates that the cropping pattern performed currently (paddy-paddy) is due to the lack of manpower and agricultural equipment as well as social condition, that is the farmer has a custom not to work in the rice field during fasting month. <br /> <br /> In order to overcome the question above, it is required an agricultural mechanization as an attempt to anticipate the lack of manpower. In addition, it is also required some information and training for improving the human resources in the irrigation area of Batang Anai.and manpower.
