This research deals with the EMQ model that considers an improvement of the production process. The production process improvement is achieved through investment in production technology. The aim to improve the process is to prolong the time of the process in-control state. This improvement requires investment cost in one side, and reduces the restoration and warranty cost in other side. Hence, there is a tradeoff between the reduction of the restoration and warranty cost and investment cost. In this Thesis, we find EMQ such that to balance this tradeoff or minimize the total cost, which is the sum of manufacturing cost, warranty cost, and investment cost.

Two models have been developed, that is Model I and Model II. Model I aims to find b*, an additional time in which the process is in control-state as a result of using a new technology. While Model II seeks for a new technology which gives the least total cost.

The analytical approach is used to prove that the optimal solution for Model I and Model II, which each minimizes the total cost of the system. An heuristic algorithm is developed to find optimal solutions for both models. Numerical examples are given to describe the solution of both models. From the result of numerical examples, it can be concluded that the investment in technology can prolong the time of the process in control-state and this in turn can reduce the restoration and warranty cost.
