Piper contains about 1000 species and spread on tropical countries, found mainly on tropical rainforest floor. Piper produce alkaloids, aromatics, and terpenes. Celeber pepper is a vinous plant with a green-colored, heart-shaped leaves. Celebes pepper leaves is silvery-patterned on topside and have a distinct red color on downside. Indonesian people, mostly Javanese use Celebes pepper leaves for therapeutic purposes. Celebes pepper leaves believed to be able to cure oral health problem, GI tract diseases, hypertension, diabetes, and hepatitis. 300 grams of dried Celebes pepper leaves has been macerated using methanol. Liquid phase then evaporated to acquire 20 grams of crude extract. Crude extract had been fractionated with vacuum liquid chromatography technique using n-hexane and ethyl acetate as eluent. Fraction showing UV-active spots on TLC plate then purified using radial chromatography technique. 36 milligrams of a new neolignan compound has been successfully isolated and identified as (6S, 7R)-1-allyl-2,5-dimethoxy-7-methyl-4-oxo-6-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)bicyclo[3.2.1]oct-2-en-8-yl acetate. text |
