Description
Summary:Zeolite is crystalline aluminosilicate with a 4-connected tetrahedral framework structure enclosing cavities occupied by large ions and water molecules, both of which have considerable freedom of movement, permitting ion exchange and reversible dehydration. Cation exchange in zeolites allows to change the electrostatic environment within the zeolite crystals, which can modify the adsorption and catalytic properties, that encourage this study of the cation effect on the zeolite framework. This study on the zeolite FAU and LTL were exchanged with alkaline cations (Li, Na and K) have been done. To confirm the successful of the of cation exchange is carried out on each zeolite , cation content determined by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (AES), and subsequent analysis by raman spectroscopy. The results showed that the cation exchange process in both types of zeolites successfully performed, but the ion exchange of the cations Li, both at FAU-Li and LTL-Li, cation Li were much fewer r than other cation. Results from analytical Raman specra for faujasite zeolite (FAU-Y) showed that there is a peak at region 300 cm-1 and 390 cm-1 which is the vibration of the ring 6, while the vibrational peaks in region 500 cm-1 to ring 4. In zeolite Linde type L (LTL) there is peak at region 215 cm-1 was posibly from a vibration of the ring 8, region 300 cm-1 is a vibration of the ring 6 and 500 cm-1is the vibration of the ring 4. Smaller radius of the cation on faujasite zeolite will shift the peak to higher wave numbers which is due to electrostatic interference between the cation and ring on zeolite framework. Significant peak shift was not observed on zeolite Linde type L (LTL), due to potassium cations (K) which helps balance the negative charge on the zeolite framework.
