To ensure the validity of the experimental data, it would require a comparative material which is referred as a reference material or at least secondary reference material. In this research, the preparation of reference materials candidate for the analysis of metal content of Fe, Cu, Ni, Pb, Cd, Zn, and Co in river water and study on the homogeneity and stability are done. Reference material is a material which has certain properties that are homogeneous and stable. Preparation of reference materials candidate include metals content in the sample analysis, homogeneity studies and stability studies. Analysis of the metal content of the samples was done by using atomic absorption spectrofotometry (AAS) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP). Based on the results, it was obtained Cu metal content of (1,00 ± 0,02) ppm, Cd metal content (1,01 ± 0,01) ppm Co metal content (1,05 ± 0,01) ppm, Zn metal content (1,38 ± 0,02) ppm, Pb metal content (1,21 ± 0.03 ppm, Ni metal content (1,02 ± 0,01) ppm, and Fe metal content (4,49 ± 0,04 ) ppm. Homogeneity studies through ANOVA and slope comparison for stability studies indicated that the control sample can be used up to 8 weeks. text
