Located in a strategical coastal border, which passed by the world trading sea channel. Every historical evidences about the city’s maritime glory can be witness from its traditional ship artefact called Phinisi, trading and sailing heritage objects, and historical documents from centuries of sea expeditions.. Museum preservation of these historical collectibles is one of the main effort to maintain local tradition and educate the modern society in historical appreciation. The Maritime Museum in Makassar designed on a prime location bordered directly to the sea. With symbolic and historical approachs, this museum hopes to be able to accommodate recreational and educational activities, become one of the city icon, and to become top destination of maritime historical tourism of Makassar. The Maritime Museum designed above a lot worth 6 hectares and a 15150 m2 three storey building. The Museum’s building design inspired from traditional elements such as Phinisi Boat and Toraja’s decorative pattern. The building massings are shape as like a fragmented boat plan to configure four massing building which unites by an atrium in between. Then roof’s wave shape is develop to imitate the shape of the sea waves. This structure is a lamella system with steel beams webbing to create a wave plane. To respond the site climate that has high temperature, the building is using conditioned material such as tempered glass, double insulation on its wall and roof plane, to coated steel. text
