Summary: | Visual Art Space in the Jakarta Old Town is a project of art gallery that has a major function as an injection, stimulus and collaboration for the new artists of Indonesian contemporary art. This gallery accommodates the needs of artists to exhibit their works at national and international events. In addition, the gallery is also a medium of interaction of artists and the society, it can initiate the urban regeneration with a catalyst from this visual art space, especially in Jakarta. The project site is located in Jakarta’s old town area, precisely on Jalan Kakap, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. In this project, there is VOC’s Shipyard building which is one of Dutch’s heritage buildings in Jakarta which will be part of an unique design this project. The total area of the project is 10.792 m2. The main function of the Visual Art Space is divided into five main sections: exhibitional functions, educational functions, administrative functions, supporting/commercial functions and service functions. This project is a fictive project which is assumed that the ownership is a private entity and cooperate with the government or an independent company engaged in the field of art. The main user of the gallery are the artists, the art communities, gallery staffs and curatorial staffs. The main idea of this gallery is a form of revitalization of a historic building, with the theme "Blending Old and New". With the approach of form and function, which the building is joined together VOC’s Shipyard heritage buildings can be mutually reinforcing and enriching the quality of the whole project. |
