HOFSTEDE CULTURAL DIMENSION IN ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT: THE PRACTICES OF ADOPTING LOW POWER DISTANCE IN SBM ITB AS AN ORGANIZATION BASED IN INDONESIA

This research has a purpose to investigate one of the Hofstede Cultural Dimension namely Power Distance in Organizational Context. This research conducted in School of Business and Management ITB (SBM ITB), in which SBM ITB has a low power distance value or known as Colegiality Value. Furthermore, this research has aims to measure the power distance index perceived and expected by SBM ITB stakeholders represented by dosen and tenaga pendidik. The evaluation process in this research has been conducted by distributing the questionnaire to 85 respondents consist of dosen and tenaga pendidik through personal e-mail invitation. The questionnaire has been adopted from Cultural Value Scale consists of several statements to identify the power distance index in SBM ITB. The indicator of the questionnaires are; Decision Making Process, Communication and Job Description. In data analysis, the method that used is quantitative method. According to the descriptive data analysis result, concluded that the average number of power distance index in SBM ITB perceived from dosen and tenaga pendidik is 2.75. Based on the predetermined range-scale, the power distance index in SBM ITB is categorized as medium. Meanwhile, the expectation of the power distance perceived from dosen and tenaga pendidik is 2.27. Based on the predetermined range-scale, the expected power distance index in SBM ITB is categorized as low. This situation means that dosen and tendik of SBM ITB are expecting to a low degree of power distance in practical. In addition, SBM ITB scores compare to Indonesia Nation Power Distance Index, SBM ITB scores is below Indonesia Index, in which SBM ITB score is 55, meanwhile Indonesia score is 75. This statement prove that Indonesia as the high power distance country does not inhibit the low power distance in SBM ITB. At the end, the descriptive analysis result will be a reference to propose a solution in order to strengthen the low power distance value in SBM ITB.
