Description
Summary:Indonesia ranks first in the world’s largest palm oil producing country. In 2017, the plantation area reached 12,3 million Ha with production reached 35,4 million tons. The more production from the palm oil industry, the more waste produced. The waste of oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) is a solid waste produced in large amount. The burning of OPEFB produces ash which still contains many useful compounds, one of them is potassium. As it is known that one of the main fertilizers used in oil palm plantation is potassium-based fertilizers, it is expected from this study to produce potassium that can be reused into fertilizer. In this research, there are several variations of combustion temperature in muffle furnace and variation of feed to solvent ratio (F:S) to see the effect on the concentration of potassium produced. This research consist of pyrolysis process of OPEFB into char then the char is analyzed by TGA and continued the process to combust the char in muffle furnace with temperature variations of 250°C, 400°C and 550°C then followed by solid-liquid extraction process with the amount of F:S ration varied by 1:4, 1:5, and 1:6. The solvent used in this extraction process is demineralized water. After the extraction process, vacuum filtering is done to separate the extract solution from the raffinate and proceed with evaporation process from the extract solution to evaporate the water until it is obtained by solids. Ash compound of OPEFB from ignition 400°C and 550°C the average is 4,8%. Meanwhile, ignition at 250°C is still not 100% ash because it is still black. The ash is then extracted. From the AAS analysis result, known that the highest K concentration is obtained at temperature 400°C with F:S ratio = 1:6.
