Description
Summary:Internal waves are gravity waves that occur within a fluid body. They exist in a fluid medium with density stratification. Internal waves are also encountered in the atmosphere, they are known as atmospheric internal waves or mountain waves. These waves can be seen through cloud formations, in term of a single or multiple lenticular clouds. Mountain waves, also known as lee waves, can be triggered by flow over a mountain. In this Final Project, basic characteristic of these atmospheric internal waves are examined as a two-dimensional problem. Moreover, Fourier transform method is used to find the analytical solutions. The main characteristic of these internal waves can be determined by the Scorer parameter. Waves with wave number larger than the Scorer parameter will decay as height increases, whereas waves with wave number smaller than the Scorer parameter will form propagating waves.
