This growing number of congregations triggered the decision to separate the congregations into two church based on residential area. GKPI in east Bandung was formed since approximately 50% of the congregations lived in east part of Bandung. Therefore, this church designing project was conducted to solve the church capacity matter. Church as a religious place to worship requires a quiet and solemn atmosphere. Unfortunately, the church which is located in urban area is exposed to a noise problem. Moreover, the packed Soekarno Hatta road generates accessibility and circulation problems to puzzle out. The objective of this church design project was to design a religious building for 602 congregations lived around east Bandung. This design for religious building was considering extension space to accommodate the ever growing number of congregations in the future. Besides the religious building, other supporting yet important facilities such as offices, auditoriums, classrooms, rectories, and parking lot were also designed. The concept applied in this church design project was church as a place for congregation community which embraces both Christianity and Batak cultural values. The congregations which were dominated by Batak people have particular needs based on the congregations inseparable values and customs including habits to gather and discuss. Therefore, designing not only religious building that can encourage the congregations to have a faith-centered life, but also gathering spaces that can facilitate the congregations to interact and discuss was truly necessary. text |

This project to design a church for Indonesia Protestan Church also known as GKPI on Soekarno
Hatta road, Bandung, was motivated by the growing number of congregations of GKPI Bandung in
Ciliwung street, which increase year by year. This growing number of congregations triggered the
decision to separate the congregations into two church based on residential area. GKPI in east
Bandung was formed since approximately 50% of the congregations lived in east part of Bandung.
Therefore, this church designing project was conducted to solve the church capacity matter. Church as
a religious place to worship requires a quiet and solemn atmosphere. Unfortunately, the church which
is located in urban area is exposed to a noise problem. Moreover, the packed Soekarno Hatta road
generates accessibility and circulation problems to puzzle out.
The objective of this church design project was to design a religious building for 602 congregations
lived around east Bandung. This design for religious building was considering extension space to
accommodate the ever growing number of congregations in the future. Besides the religious building,
other supporting yet important facilities such as offices, auditoriums, classrooms, rectories, and
parking lot were also designed.
The concept applied in this church design project was church as a place for congregation
community which embraces both Christianity and Batak cultural values. The congregations which were
dominated by Batak people have particular needs based on the congregations inseparable values and
customs including habits to gather and discuss. Therefore, designing not only religious building that
can encourage the congregations to have a faith-centered life, but also gathering spaces that can
facilitate the congregations to interact and discuss was truly necessary. |
