Balikpapan city is set to build football stadium for Persiba club in the Batakan region, East Balikpapan. This stadium is expected to be icon of Balikpapan. This stadium will accommodate 30,000 spectators with the quality of adhering to a FIFA standard and requirements. Problems in the design is how to make this stadium as Balikpapan city icon, how to optimize huge areas (22.3 Ha) in the sport region in Balikpapan, how to provide standard functions inside the building, and how to define the structure system and construction of this stadium. The design problem can be answered through the design concept of this stadium, making this stadium becomes the icon of the city, planning the tread and the deployment of a function that optimal for activities inside and outside of the stadium, and determining the proper system structure. The concept translated into design solutions such as planning land use that divides land for multi-purpose activities; parking lot vehicles can be used for temporary activities and the green area functioned as the city open space, the provision of commercial retails on the stadium ground floor to animate the economic activities of the stadium itself, the provision of an entrance that are scattered over several point in perimeter circumference and a number of locations in the stadium for regulating current a spectator who enter and exit during a match. To make the icon of the city , the stadium built in the gigantic shape and interesting, with the construction of space truss (goal post system) on the main structure, and the facade that indicates specificity of Kalimantan region.
