| Summary: | Pekanbaru Riverfront Center is a public building located in the waterfront city district of
Pekanbaru. In general, Pekanbaru Riverfront Center accommodates two main functions,
transport function (ferry terminal) and commercial function (lifestyle center). The design
process was started by collecting information about the site physical conditions, contexts, and
also learning from precedents with similar case. The unique characteristics of the site with an
edge that surrounds by the Siak River, and located on a visually exposed spot in the district, are
some potency that will be explored in the design.
The building is designed with terracing concept that can be used as an urban public space.
The integration between the building and its surroundings is created with a continuous public
space alongside the river. The design came with iconic image which is adapted from malay
traditional architecture, that represents the image of riverfront district of Pekanbaru. On the
other side, the building came with horizontality image and human scale design as the respond
to its surroundings. |
