Summary:Medan Belawan Port is located in the district of Belawan, Medan - North Sumatera. This port has a strategic location because it is the estuary of the Deli river and Babura river, and just 13.5 km from the strait of Malacca, which is one lane of traffic regional and international trade. Belawan port became one of the entrances of foreign trade and tourism in western Indonesia. This port has an area of about 12072,33 Ha, consists of several small ports such as the Belawan Lama Port, Ujung Baru Port, Citra Port, Container Terminal, Conventional Gabion and Passenger Terminal. Crowded activity in the port is still not supported by the provision of adequate facilities one of which is the passenger terminal. To improve the quality of services, the passenger terminal will be moved from the Ujung Baru Port to Belawan Lama Port. The location was chosen because the activity that occurs in the Belawan Lama Port not crowded as other ports. Not only as a sea transportation facilities, the passenger terminal that close to local housing is also expected to be a refresher for that location. The project, which is under the authority of PT. Pelindo I was also a part of the Indonesia Port Master Plan in 2013. The design of buildings using passenger circulation method and then translated into zoning and mass composition of this terminal. The general concept is to make this terminal as an iconic Indonesian West gate and public open spaces that can be enjoyed by locals and foreign tourists. The terminal has check in, security check and luggage storage facilities. This function has a rigid order of use so not to be disturbed. The additional other supporting facilities such as commercial facilities, public spaces and parking area. This project has a single mass but it looks like separate, because there is a separation of domestic and international zones that will be connected by a public hall as a greeter atrium. The design of the passenger terminal is expected to improve quality of services passenger terminal of Belawan Port and become a reference for improving the image of the passenger terminal ports in Indonesia.
