OVERPRESSURE ANALYSIS AND DISTRIBUTION IN TAMBORA FIELD, EAST KALIMANTAN

The Tambora Field is a gas field located in the Mahakam Delta that has been developed since 1984. 154 wells have been drilled in this field attempting to develop the field and to increase the production. One of the drilling target interval in Tambora field is G zone (marker MF11-MF12) which is overp...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/33111 The Tambora Field is a gas field located in the Mahakam Delta that has been developed since 1984. 154 wells have been drilled in this field attempting to develop the field and to increase the production. One of the drilling target interval in Tambora field is G zone (marker MF11-MF12) which is overpressure. The goals of this study are to model the distribution of overpressure zone ini Tambora Field especially in G zone, and know the mechanism of its origin and the relationship with geological setting in the study area. This research was performed by integrating data from key wells that represent the entire wells in Tambora Field which have complete data that can be used as source of data for overpressure analysis. The result of this study indicates that the overpressure in the study area is generated by the mechanism of non-loading or fluid expansion caused by the maturity of the source rock. The top of overpressure in the study area is controlled by the anticlinal structure and the presence of thick claystone deposited in the pro delta environment. Stratigraphically, this claystone is located in the MF12 marker, which is Middle Miocene in Age. The 2D pore pressure modeling results validated through the blind well method were qualitatively able to predict the presence of overpressure in Tambora Field. Based on this circumtances, it was concluded that the modeling of 2D overpressure distribution in Tambora Field gives a reliable result. text
