This mastication gauge equipment can provide information of mastication force on teeth for patients oral health care, as reference data in manufacture dental implant, and as knowledge to study mechanic of mastication system on human teeth. The mastication measuring devices that have been made until today generally use strain gauge rosette sensor or piezoelectric sensor to measure value of bite force in vertical direction on human teeth. This final project aims to design a measuring instrument to measure the mastication force in vertical and horizontal direction on human teeth. The first step in designing this sensor device is collecting information about available sensor device. The next step is to design requirements and objectives measurement mastication force device, in this case it is easy in manufacturing process and can measure mastication force in vertical and horizontal direction. The next step is to create evaluation rubric to find appropriate solution of this design with requirements. Evaluation rubric generate design that use acrylic material which shape is hollow box sized 10 mm x 10 mm x 10 mm with 1 mm thickness. This design also have cover from rubber and use strain gauge rosette sized 5,56 mm x 5,56 mm to measure strain from this design. After that, the last step is to test the designs that have been made to simulate mastication force with ansys software to obtain strain value used for mastication force readings measured by making calibration matrix. The result of the simulation show that this design has small error in applied force readings. However, the develeoped design has considerable sensitivity in case of manufacturing error and strain gauge positioning errors. text
