BALUBUR COMMERCIAL CENTRE AND PUBLIC SPACE UNDER PASUPATI ELEVATED ROAD WITH CONNECTIVITY APPROACH

This is a redesign thesis of Balubur Commercial Center to become a commercial center that is responsive to the needs of public space in the Balubur settlement area. Balubur Commercial Center construction alongside with Pasupati Elevated Road separates the Balubur region, which is currently not responded well by Balubur Town Square. Thus, the purpose of this thesis is to find a formulation that harmonize the commercial center and public open space with connectivity approach. First thing to do is to create a commercial center that is contextual to urban village, which means affordable, permeable, and flexible. Then, how to make the space under the bridge into a community activities node and part of the city connectivity system. The integration between the commercial center and public open space around it, will make Balubur able to contribute in building a definedand- maintained connectivity system to the surrounding region in particular and Bandung generally. Strong urban village character will be maintained as Balubur identity. Balubur connectivity system will be defined as the movement generator from and to the area around Balubur. Flexibility of commercial space and public open space will be maximized to increase the affordability of local residents. In the future, this design will be a part of community development in Balubur as part of Bandung.
