Tensegrity structure is a system structure that emerged about 80 years ago and was found by three different experts profession, namely Buckminster Fuller, George D Emmerich and Kenneth Snelson. Tensegrity structure has increased the wealth of structures variant among the world of designers, engineers and architects, although the concept of the structural system does not arise from the construction industry, but from the world of art. Tensegrity stands for tensile and integrity, where the elements just received a tensile force or press force to form a certain stability, but the compressive elements do not meet each other. Although each element only receives a tensile force or press, but arranging the press elements in a tensile cable network is not easy. Required a special approach in designing this structure. The purpose of this design is to produce a shade of football stadium stand using tensegrity structures through a process of exploration that comes with an explanation of the the formfinding process. The object is achieved through a process of mock-up simulation with form model controlled method. Exploration result shows that the design process by form controlled model method has advantages in the development of ideas and the idea is flexible because it relies on strong intuition, so that this method is appropriate when selected based architectural reasons. However, in order to achieve the maximum result and accurately, further research can be conducted by force controlled model method. text |

This research is motivated by the need of the development of tensegrity
structure, associated with its application in the field of architecture, in terms of
the advantages, the form-finding process, and how the application of tensegrity
structures in the real case. Tensegrity structure is a system structure that emerged
about 80 years ago and was found by three different experts profession, namely
Buckminster Fuller, George D Emmerich and Kenneth Snelson. Tensegrity
structure has increased the wealth of structures variant among the world of
designers, engineers and architects, although the concept of the structural system
does not arise from the construction industry, but from the world of art.
Tensegrity stands for tensile and integrity, where the elements just received a
tensile force or press force to form a certain stability, but the compressive
elements do not meet each other. Although each element only receives a tensile
force or press, but arranging the press elements in a tensile cable network is not
easy. Required a special approach in designing this structure. The purpose of this
design is to produce a shade of football stadium stand using tensegrity structures
through a process of exploration that comes with an explanation of the the formfinding
process. The object is achieved through a process of mock-up simulation
with form model controlled method. Exploration result shows that the design
process by form controlled model method has advantages in the development of
ideas and the idea is flexible because it relies on strong intuition, so that this
method is appropriate when selected based architectural reasons. However, in
order to achieve the maximum result and accurately, further research can be
conducted by force controlled model method. |
