Revitalize the Physical Attribute In Beting Village, Pontianak by Landscape Design

Pontianak is a city that crossed by the Kapuas River, with one of the branches are in the middle of the city of Pontianak. Since 1771, this river intersection has became the central region of the Kingdom of Kadariyah which later also the center of the development of Pontianak City. Kadariyah palace area developed with the advent of area of Kampung Beting, that is a village that grew on the banks of the river around the area of the palace. Beting village itself is home to the community and traders who still have a relationship with the palace. Beting village has its own peculiarities as the region grows in the palace, and morphologically stand on tidal land which has a canal system as a transport route. Revitalization of the area of Kampung Beting is needed because along with the development of Pontianak City that is growing rapidly in the fields of trade and industry, Kampung Beting Area developed into an irregular regions. Waste problems and shallowing the canal in Kampung Beting, become the Indications of environmental degradation. This is caused by the canal system was less effective in channeling water and channel cross-sectional shape was not in accordance with it's function as a transport route. Lack of sufficient space for community activity and the decreased of human productivity caused by the use of the open space that has not been effective. Studies conducted in this thesis focused on the study of the canal system as drainage systems and transportation systems, study of open space as a social space and historical area and the study of the development of society through aquaculture productivity. The vision of landscape design in the area of Kampung Beting is maintaining and preserving the shape of the waterfront area and encourage the sustainability and growth of local social and cultural traditions. Moreover the design concept directed to improve the function of open space as a medium of communication people as recreational place, and also can increase the productivity of the region so as to create a conducive climate for trade in the conduct of business in the community of Kampung Beting. The resulting design concept consists of a concept of channel paths and open space concept functions as a communal space and public spaces productively. The concept of landscape design are expected to meet the goals and objectives in the area of physical revitalization efforts in Kampung Beting.
